ISLAM'S TOLERANCE OF THE HINDU FAITH

Monday, 28 April, 2008

Too often, and for complex reasons, Islam is believed to be a religion that is inherently intolerant. Here is an article in the Gulf News that demonstrates the opposite.

In an article entitled "Islamic seminary's plea against cow slaughter receives praise", it was reported that an Islamic seminary in India made a plea to Muslims "to refrain from cow slaughter and beef eating" in a demonstration of "Hindu-Muslim brotherhood". The seminary, Dar-ul-Uloom, pointed out that "meat eaters can opt for buffaloes, goats, chickens and fish". The reason for this rather surprising Islamic plea is, actually, a very simple one: "Sharia doesn't allow beef-eating if prohibited under law". After looking into the matter, an Islamic committee issued the fatwa, concluding that "Sharia does not allow anything that is against the law of the land" even though it is not an Islamic requirement not to eat beef.

In the wake of anti-Islamic reporting especially since 9/11, this article reveals the inner core of Islamic values.
